About

Chinese Financial Centers

Mission

Chinese Financial Centers is a research platform providing clear, academically grounded, and regularly updated information about the principal financial centers of mainland China — for international researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.

Coverage

The platform covers nine mainland cities that form the core of China's financial center hierarchy: the three global-tier centers (Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen) and six nationally significant hubs (Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Chengdu, Chongqing, Qingdao). Together, these cities account for the vast majority of China's financial-sector assets, capital market activity, and regulatory functions.

Sources & Methodology

Content draws on peer-reviewed academic research, official government and regulatory publications, recognized industry indices — including the Z/Yen–CDI Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) and the China Development Institute's China Financial Center Index (CFCI) — and primary policy documents. All claims are traceable to named sources, which are cited in the History section.

Languages

All content is available in English, Simplified Chinese (简体中文), and Traditional Chinese (繁體中文).
